In a new history of the CIA called "Legacy of Ashes," New York Times reporter Tim Weiner traces some of the failings of the CIA today back to that founding generation. One of those originals, Frank Wisner, was a lawyer, a World War II spy, and a man who by the end of the 1950s would go mad. It overthrew foreign governments, even attempted to assassinate foreign leaders, actions that are now recalled more with embarrassment than pride. Under them, in the 1950s, America's spy agency launched audacious operations. At the dawn of the Cold War, Allen Dulles, Richard Bissell and Frank Wisner were considered daring, imaginative and brilliant. ![]()

Friendship, trust, and responsibility are major themes as Sera struggles to grasp that she is really her kingdom's only hope. Donnelly then adds layers of complexity to the tale and weaves her story into that of Atlantis. It starts with a common enough concept: a royal girl who is worried about her betrothal and about love. There's also plenty of romantic tension with handsome mermen, strife between merls (that's girl mermaids) from rival regions, and some powerful female friendships amid the fast-paced plot, filled with wondrous magic."- Booklist, PRAISE FOR DEEP BLUE "A fantastic addition to the genre of mermaids, this book will also appeal to readers of action and those who appreciate usurped leaders taking back their kingdom. PRAISE FOR DEEP BLUE "Best-selling Donnelly (Revolution, 2010) builds an alluring mermaid civilization and history, filled with painterly descriptions of Sera's underwater palace and its unearthly architecture, her sumptuous wardrobe, and the menagerie of half-human, half-marine animal denizens. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments We should all be feminists![]()

He was dressed, both times, in a red sweater, and occasionally dragged on an enormous rolled cigarette that smoked up the screen. “No offense, but I am unused to publicizing my own work,” he told me from his home in Northampton, in England’s East Midlands, during one of two Zoom interviews in September, around the time of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Alan Moore, who is perhaps the greatest comic book writer to ever live, does not give many interviews. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments Fences drama![]() ![]() This Brobdingnagian idea was a loathsome betrayal of the principles of simplicity that often characterize great endurance racing cars, and it failed.
